“You’ve been having a rough week, haven’t you? I suggest we order something sweet after our appetizer to help cheer you up. It’ll be my treat.” Eve opened Sundae’s menu and flipped to the dessert section. “Oh, look! They’ve got a new strawberry cheesecake.”

“Yum. Let’s go with that.” Holly licked her lips.

“Why, hello ladies. It’s good to see you two. What can I get for you?” A short, heavyset woman with curly brown hair and green eyes shimmied over to their table.

“Hi, Monica. We’d like a hummus platter and two iced teas to start.” Eve closed the menu.

“We’ve got a new strawberry cheesecake that’s so good it’s sinful. Would you like to try it?” Monica dazzled them with a pearly white smile.

“You know us so well. We’ll have that, too.” Eve laughed.

“Excellent! I’ll have those drinks and your appetizer out in a jiffy.” Monica winked and retreated to the kitchen to place their order. She returned with their drinks moments later before disappearing to take another table’s order.

Holly reached for hers and took a sip.

Eve leaned forward. “So, I heard you and Officer Graham are awfully close now.”

Holly nearly spit out her tea. “Huh?”

Eve fished her phone out of her handbag and opened an app. She turned it toward Holly with a smile. A video of her and Clark slow dancing to the sound of the waves played on the screen.

Holly’s face flushed beet-red. “Oh, my gosh. Where did you get that?”

“I recorded it.” Eve’s lips spread into a smile that would put the Cheshire Cat to shame.

“You were there?” Holly squeaked.

“Me and about everyone else.” Eve turned her phone off and returned it to her purse. “Everyone was talking about your dance. You two were so in sync you kept going even after the music stopped. It was really something. Like you were in your own little world.”

Holly swallowed her embarrassment. “It wasn’t on purpose.”

“Oh? Does that mean you got swept away by the romantic mood?” Eve wiggled her eyebrows.

“Maybe I was, but it’s not my fault. Clark was extra charming.” Holly avoided her friend’s prying eyes and stared at the iced tea.

“When are you going to tell him you like him?” she asked.

“I don’t know. Let’s change the subject.” Holly squirmed in the seat, uncomfortable.

“Party pooper.” Eve stuck out her tongue.

“Isn’t there something else we can discuss?” She fidgeted with her straw.

“Well, I heard someone targeted your mom’s shop again. Do you want to talk about it?”

“Ugh. Don’t even get me started. I just spent the last few hours helping my dad clean up after the place flooded.” Holly slumped back against the booth and rubbed her temples.

“Flooded? Like with water? How did that happen?” Eve gasped.

“Someone left the sink running, and it overflowed. To make matters worse, they dumped all of her stand mixers on the floor. The water ruined them.” Holly took a slow, deep breath and counted to ten to calm her nerves.

“That’s awful. Does your family have any idea who did it?” Eve sipped her drink.
